The Gatehouse is in Hooke, near Beaminster. It's a bungalow, so everything's on one level. Good for my dad who doesn't do stairs anymore. It's detached and sits on the edge of a large estate with a lake you can see from the garden.
It sleeps eight with four bedrooms. There are five bathrooms, which seems a lot but it means everyone can get ready at the same time. It has a 3 Star rating. It's clean, comfortable, and well equipped. It's not a show home.
The living area is open plan: kitchen, dining table, sofas all in one big room. The garden is enclosed, which is handy. There's a patio with a barbecue, a washing machine, dishwasher, that sort of thing. Bedding and towels are provided. Parking is right outside.
You're here for the countryside and the coast. The Wessex Ridgeway is on the doorstep for walking. The Dorset coast, like Lyme Regis and Chesil Beach, is about a twenty minute drive. Bridport's a bit closer.
Beaminster is three and a half miles away. It has shops, a couple of pubs, and a supermarket. For a day out, the National Trust looks after a lot of the coastline here. The Jurassic Coast website is useful for planning. Abbotsbury Swannery is about twenty five minutes by car.
No pets, sorry. The owners are firm on that.
