The Retreat

The Retreat is in Burton Bradstock, on the edge of the village. It's a semi-detached, listed house. It sleeps eleven, which is why we got it, for big family holidays. There are five bedrooms and four bathrooms, so it works for that many.

It's a five star rating, which means it's well-equipped and comfortable. It's a large house.

The layout is over three floors. The kitchen and dining area is big, so everyone tends to gather there. There's a good-sized living room. The stairs are standard for an old house.

There's a pretty enclosed garden, a parking space, and it's about a ten minute walk down to Hive Beach. The beach cafe there is very good. There are a couple of pubs in the village.

If you walk the other way along the coast path for a bit, you get to West Bay. It's a dramatic harbour with big cliffs. Bridport is a five minute drive inland. They have a good market on Saturdays. Dorchester is about twenty minutes away.

The coast is the main thing. You're right on the Jurassic Coast. Lyme Regis is to the west, Weymouth to the east, both within half an hour. For planning days out, the National Trust has a lot of nearby properties and coast.

The facilities are what you'd expect: wifi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher. A wood burner, which is nice in the colder months. Two well-behaved pets are allowed. All bedding and towels are included.
