The Old Posthouse Barn is in Lower Weare, just outside Axbridge. It’s a single barn conversion that sleeps two. You’re on your own here, it’s detached.
It’s one bedroom, one bathroom. The bedroom is up a wooden staircase on a mezzanine, so it’s open to the room below. The stairs are normal, but they are open-tread. It’s got a 4 Star rating.
Outside, there’s a courtyard with a table and chairs. It gets the sun in the evening. You look out over fields at the back.
Inside, it’s open plan downstairs. Kitchen, dining table, and sitting area. It’s warm, with a wood finish. There’s WiFi, a TV, and parking right outside.
You’ve got the Strawberry Line path nearby for walks or a cycle. Axbridge is a five minute drive. It’s a small old town with a square, a couple of pubs, and a interesting museum called King John’s Hunting Lodge.
Cheddar Gorge is about ten minutes away. Good for a walk, and the caves are worth seeing. The whole area is part of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Wells is under half an hour’s drive. The cathedral is the main thing there. Weston-super-Mare is about twenty minutes if you want a beach day.
It’s very close to the A38, so getting around is easy. But that does mean you can hear some road noise if you’re outside. Inside, with the doors shut, it’s fine.
Bedding and towels are included. No pets. It’s just for two people, but there’s another cottage next door if you were coming with another couple.
Useful links: National Trust Cheddar Gorge and English Heritage Glastonbury Tor (which is about a 30 minute drive).
