Mill Batch Cottage

Mill Batch Cottage is in Mark, on the Somerset Levels. It's a detached cottage, used to be a cattle barn in the 1780s. Someone called William Counsell turned it into a cottage in 1819, so you'll see 'WC 1819' carved outside and 'WC' above the fireplace.

It sleeps five, in three bedrooms. There's one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. We refurbished it in 2019, so it's got new furniture and appliances. But it keeps the old bits like the low wooden beam at the front door, the oak ceiling, and the original fireplace. We've put a wood burner in that.

The stairs are steep. They're the original ones.

The garden is enclosed but it's small. It borders our much bigger garden, so it feels more open. There's an orchard next door with old cider apple trees. Sheep sometimes wander through. You get a lot of wildlife here, and the wider area is good for that too, like the Avalon Marshes.

In the village there's a shop and two pubs that do food. Both are about a five minute walk.

For days out, Glastonbury Tor is about 20 minutes by car. Wells and the cathedral are about half an hour. The coast at Burnham-on-Sea is 20 minutes. The Mendip Hills are right there for walking. You can be in Cheddar Gorge in about 25 minutes.

The facilities are what you'd expect: TV, WiFi, washing machine, dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking. You can bring two dogs.
