Barleycombe is in Christon, Somerset. It's an old Victorian hunting lodge, set back from the road on a long drive. You're on the edge of the Mendips here, with views across farmland.
It sleeps ten people. Five bedrooms, four bathrooms. It's got a 5 Star rating, so the finish is good and everything's well-equipped. The house is on three floors, including a tower room at the top with its own bathroom. There are quite a lot of stairs inside, including some spiral ones, and they are steep. That's just how it was built.
You get about three acres to yourselves. There's an enclosed courtyard by the house, a flat lawn that's good for garden games, and then some private woodland beyond that. It's very quiet.
Inside, the rooms are big. There's a main living room, then a separate games room with a TV and speakers. There's also a small library room if you want some quiet. The kitchen has everything you'd need, and there's a utility room with a washing machine and a drying space.
For things to do, you're right on the Mendips. There are public footpaths through the farmland from the gate. Cheddar Gorge is about 15 minutes by car. Blagdon Lake is close if you're into fishing. There's a golf course nearby.
Weston-super-Mare and the beach are about a 20-minute drive. Wells is maybe 25 minutes. Bath is further, about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. If you're planning trips, the Mendip Hills AONB site has walking information. For the bigger days out, National Trust Cheddar Gorge and English Heritage Glastonbury Tor are useful.
Facilities include all the bedding and towels, the washing machine, a dishwasher, WiFi, and parking for several cars. There's a BBQ in the courtyard. No pets, sorry.
