The Old Forge is my place in Shiplate. It's on our farm, attached to our house, but you've got your own space and garden. It used to be the blacksmith's workshop, so it's a big, tall room inside with stone walls and beams. There's a sort of balcony upstairs they call a minstrels' gallery, looking down over the main living area.
It sleeps six, in three bedrooms. One is downstairs, off the living room, with doors to the garden. Upstairs there are two more. Getting up there is via a wrought iron spiral staircase. It's steep and open, so you need to be careful. The twin room is on the gallery, and then there's a double with its own bathroom through another door.
Outside, there's a paved area with a picnic bench that looks onto the lake. It's quiet, good for watching the birds. The garden is laid out in an Italian style, with some benches.
Inside, we've left a grand piano. It's there if anyone wants to play.
For facilities, you've got pretty much what you'd need. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, a woodburner for cooler evenings. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. The downstairs wet room and the entrance are step-free, so it works for wheelchair users, but the upstairs bedrooms aren't accessible because of the spiral stairs.
Location wise, it's peaceful here. There's a pub that does food about a mile away. Weston-super-Mare is the main seaside town, about seven miles, with its pier and beach. Burnham-on-Sea and Clevedon are smaller. Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole are a short drive inland. Wells is lovely for a day out, with the cathedral. Glastonbury Tor is visible from miles around. Bath and Bristol are both under an hour away if you want a city trip.
