Carn Eilrig
Carn Eilrig is a log cabin in the Croftside bit of Aviemore. It's detached, so nobody's attached to you. You can walk into the centre of town in about 15 minutes, which is handy for shops and places to eat.
It sleeps six, in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. The style inside is quite simple and clean, sort of Scandinavian. It feels spacious.
There's a big covered decking area you get to from the living room. Good for sitting out with a drink, even if it's drizzling. You can park right there.
The place has what you'd need: dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, a cot and highchair if you're bringing little ones. It's wheelchair accessible at the entrance and has a ground floor bathroom. We take up to two pets.
You're right in the Cairngorms. For walking, the Rothiemurchus Estate is on your doorstep. The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd is up there too, which is a bit different. For a proper day out, the Highland Wildlife Park is about a 20-minute drive. Aviemore itself has a swimming pool and a cinema.
In winter, you're close to the ski slopes at Cairngorm Mountain. In the warmer months, you're well placed for the Strathspey Steam Railway, or walking parts of the Speyside Way. If you want to plan ahead, these links are useful: Cairngorms National Park and National Trust for Scotland Cairngorms.
That's about it. It's a comfortable base for doing stuff, or just for sitting on the deck.
