Hollyhocks Cottage is in Helland, just outside Bodmin. It's an old stone cottage, probably 18th or 19th century, right on the old railway line. That's now the Camel Trail, so you can walk or cycle straight from the garden gate.
The house sleeps seven. There are four bedrooms and one family bathroom. It’s got a 4 Star rating. There’s also a small shower room attached to the main bedroom. The stairs are cottage stairs, so they’re a bit steep and turn a corner.
The garden is enclosed. It’s got a lawn and a patio with a table. It’s a good spot because there’s not much light pollution round here, so you can see the stars on a clear night.
Inside, the kitchen has a range cooker and a big table. There’s a separate living room with a wood burner. We supply the first basket of logs. There’s also a small study room with a chair if you want some quiet.
You can bring up to two dogs. We include bedding and towels. There’s a washing machine, dishwasher, cot, highchair, and a stairgate at the top of the stairs.
Helland Bridge itself is medieval and worth a look. The Camel Trail is the main thing here. You can walk or cycle to Wadebridge, or all the way to Padstow if you’re feeling energetic. It’s about 13 minutes by car to Wadebridge for shops. Bodmin is closer, about three miles. The steam railway and the old prison are there.
There are a few good pubs in the nearby villages like St Kew and Blisland. For the coast, Polzeath, Rock and Padstow are about a 20 to 30 minute drive. Port Isaac and Tintagel are a bit further, maybe 40 minutes.
