The Old Farmhouse

The Old Farmhouse is here in Blakeney, on the edge of the Forest of Dean. It's part of a working sheep farm, so you'll see the sheep in the fields. It's a detached house, so no neighbours through the walls.

It sleeps eight people. Four bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's got a 3 Star rating. That means it's comfortable and clean, but not a show home. Everything works.

The garden is enclosed, which is good if you're bringing a dog. Speaking of which, one well-behaved dog is welcome. There's parking right there.

Inside, you've got the normal stuff: a washing machine, dishwasher, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot in the cupboard if you need it.

There's a shop about 300 yards away, and a pub that does food about 200 yards. They're both fine.

For things to do, you're right on the doorstep of the Forest of Dean. Good walking and cycling straight from the door. The Wye Valley is a short drive. Forest of Dean tourism has maps and details. Wye Valley is worth a look for planning trips.

Within about half an hour you can get to Puzzlewood, or Go Ape if the kids are feeling brave. Symonds Yat and the rock climbing is close. Hereford and Gloucester are both easy to drive to if you want a cathedral or bigger shops.

It's a farm, so it's not silent. You'll hear sheep, and farm vehicles sometimes. The wi-fi works, but it's not super fast. If you want a quiet base to come back to after being out, it does the job.
