Searchlight Cottage
Right, Searchlight Cottage. It’s in Fraisthorpe, near Bridlington. You’re out in the fields here, detached, all on one level. It was built for the people who worked the old wartime searchlight on the site. It’s been modernised now, obviously, but the original range cooker is still in the living room. It doesn’t work, it’s just there.
It’s for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom with a shower. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean, not luxury. There’s an enclosed garden and patio, so your dog can stay. One pet allowed.
It’s very quiet. The views are over farmland. The RSPB reckon there are over a hundred different types of birds around here. There’s a pond on the land if you want to do a bit of fishing. A footpath leads straight from the cottage down to the coast.
For basics, the nearest shop and pub are about two and a half miles away, in Auburn. The pub does food. Bridlington is four miles for everything else. The coast path is right there for walking. Flamborough Head and the RSPB Bempton Cliffs are a short drive north. Beverley is about sixteen miles, York is further but you can do it in an hour for a day out.
Facilities: it’s got a woodburner, a washing machine, TV, BBQ. Bedding and towels are included. Parking right outside. The key thing is it’s peaceful.
