School Cottage is in Newbiggin, in Bishopdale. It's a terraced cottage, built in 1880. It was a school room upstairs in Victorian times.
It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's been done up but they kept the character. The ceilings are high and the windows are tall, so it feels quite light. The stairs are normal.
Downstairs is all open plan. Kitchen, living area, dining bit. There's a wood burner in a stone fireplace. The floor is oak. There are two porches, front and back, which are useful for boots and coats.
Upstairs, the bedroom has a king size bed. The bathroom is en-suite. It's got underfloor heating, a roll-top bath and a separate shower cubicle.
Outside at the back there's a little flagged courtyard with a table and chairs.
Newbiggin is very small and quiet. There's a waterfall. You'll see horses from the farm opposite going past sometimes. You can walk from the door to West Burton or Aysgarth.
The local pub is about five minutes walk. They do good food and local ales. The nearest shop is about two miles away in Carperby.
For bigger towns, Hawes is about fifteen minutes drive. Leyburn and Richmond are maybe twenty-five minutes. Grassington is about half an hour. They've got the usual shops and tea rooms.
It's in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, so walking is the main thing. Aysgarth Falls is close. For a big day out, you can get to the Lake District or the North York Moors in under an hour and a half.
What's here: Washing machine, dishwasher, TV with Freesat, WiFi, wood burner. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking. No pets, sorry.
If you're planning walks, the Yorkshire Dales National Park site is useful. For historic houses nearby, English Heritage has a good list.
