School Cottage is in Newbiggin. It's a tiny village at the top of Bishopdale, which is one of the smaller, quieter Yorkshire Dales. It's a terraced cottage, one of a few old stone buildings near the little waterfall.
It sleeps two. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It was refurbished recently, so everything's in good order. The ceilings are high and the windows are tall because it was built as a schoolhouse in the 1880s. You can see the original shutters.
Downstairs is open plan. There's a wood burner in a stone fireplace, a new kitchen, and oak floors. The stairs go up to a big bedroom with a king-size bed. The bathroom is ensuite and has a roll-top bath as well as a shower.
There are porches front and back, which are useful for boots and coats. The back courtyard has a table and chairs and some bird feeders. You'll see a lot of birds, and often horses from the farm opposite going past in the lane.
The village is quiet. There's a pub serving food about five minutes' walk away. For a shop, you'd need to drive a couple of miles. You can walk from the door to West Burton or to Aysgarth Falls.
Hawes, Leyburn, Richmond and Grassington are all within about half an hour's drive. They're proper market towns with shops and cafes. You're right in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, so walking is the main thing. For other ideas, National Trust Yorkshire and English Heritage have places like Fountains Abbey and Richmond Castle nearby.
Facilities: parking on site, WiFi, a smart TV, washing machine, dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. No pets.
