Tophams Laithe

The cottage is called Tophams Laithe. It's in Conistone, which is a quiet little spot in the Yorkshire Dales.

It sleeps three. There are two bedrooms; one with a kingsize bed and one with a small double, so it's fine for an adult or a child. One bathroom with a bath and shower over it. You get one well-behaved dog.

It's got a 4 Star rating. That means it's comfortable and well-equipped but not luxurious. It's a converted barn, so there are low beams upstairs in the living room. The stairs are quite steep, which is normal for these places.

It's all on one level except for those stairs up to the living room. There's a downstairs entrance with space for boots and bikes, and a useful drying room for wet coats. The kitchen has what you need, including a dishwasher and washing machine. Bedding and towels are included.

From the living room window and the dining table, you look out at Kilnsey Crag. The master bedroom has a view over the River Wharfe.

The Dales Way footpath runs on the hillside right above the cottage. You can walk straight from the door. The lane outside is part of the Tour de Yorkshire route if you're bringing bikes. There's a riding school next door if you want to go horse riding.

Kilnsey Trout Farm is about half a mile away. They have fishing, a cafe and a farm shop. The nearest pub is also about half a mile. A decent shop with a local butcher is in Grassington, which is two miles away.

Grassington is a good base for the area. Skipton is about a 20-minute drive if you need a bigger town. The whole of the Yorkshire Dales National Park is on your doorstep. Useful links for planning: Yorkshire Dales National Park and National Trust Yorkshire.
