The Red Rooster is a barn conversion on our dairy farm in Arlingham. It's on the flat part of the Severn estuary, in a big loop of the river. The views are over fields towards the Cotswold escarpment on one side and the Forest of Dean on the other.
It sleeps seven. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms. One bedroom has a very large bed and the other has bunk beds and singles, so it's set up for families. It's a 5 Star place, which means it's comfortable and well-finished. It has underfloor heating, which is good in winter.
You're on a working farm. You'll see cattle, sheep, and there are often ponies and ducks in the yard. If farm noises or early mornings bother you, it might not be for you. It's generally quiet, but it is a real farm.
There's a local pub in the village, about a fifteen-minute walk through the woods. They do food. Another good pub, known for seafood, is a bit further but still walkable if you don't mind a longer stroll. For shops, you need to drive. Frampton-on-Severn has a shop and a couple of pubs. It has the longest village green in England, which is a nice spot.
The river is about two miles from the cottage as the crow flies, but the farm has its own path down to it. Good for walks and picnics. You're right on the Severn Way for longer walks.
For days out, Slimbridge Wetland Centre is about a 20-minute drive and is excellent for birds. Berkeley Castle is close too. Gloucester and its docks are about half an hour, Bristol a bit longer. Cheltenham, the Cotswolds, and the Forest of Dean are all within a 30 to 40 minute drive.
Facilities: there's parking, a garden, WiFi, a washing machine, and a cot and highchair if needed. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs.
