Bwthyn Yr Ardd is the old gardener's cottage for a manor house near Criccieth. It's a few minutes' walk from the centre of town, but you're up a lane so it feels quiet. The garden is shared with the stable cottage next door. It's mostly lawn and trees, and you can sit out there.
It sleeps five in three bedrooms, with two bathrooms. One is downstairs. The stairs are the original stone spiral staircase. It's steep and narrow. You need to mind your head and your step. It wouldn't suit anyone with mobility problems.
The cottage is old, from the 1600s. The walls are thick stone and there are two big inglenook fireplaces. We've put in a wood burner in the main one. It's been restored, so it's comfortable and warm, but the character is all still there. It's got a 4 Star rating.
There's parking right outside. Inside, there's a washing machine, a dishwasher, wifi, and all the bedding and towels are included. You can bring one well-behaved dog.
Criccieth itself is a small seaside town. The castle is right on the headland. There's a good choice of pubs, cafes, and a few shops. The beach is a mix of sand and stone, and it's about a ten minute walk downhill from the cottage.
For wider days out, you're in a good spot. The Snowdonia National Park is about a 30 minute drive inland. Portmeirion is a 15 minute drive up the coast. Harlech Castle, about 20 minutes south, is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
