You're about a five minute walk from Porthmeor Beach, which is a Blue Flag beach. The town centre, with all the shops, pubs and the Tate, is just behind you.
For getting out, you're right on the South West Coast Path. The National Trust looks after a lot of the coast around here. The Visit Cornwall site is good for ideas. If you drive, you can get to places like Penzance or up to Godrevy in under half an hour.
