East Cottage
East Cottage is out in Rothbury, Northumberland. It's a Victorian cottage, built for the farm workers on the Cragside Estate back in the 1880s. You get all the original features. It's on a working rare breed farm, so you'll see cattle, sheep, and goats about.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The garden is a good size, with nice views over the fields. You can bring two dogs, but they need to be on a lead around the farm. There's an enclosed area where you can let them off for a run.
The heating is a bit different. It's mainly run on a wood burning stove and an old Esse Range cooker in the kitchen, which also heats the water. There's a standard electric oven too. It's eco-friendly, but it does mean you need to keep the stove going to stay warm. We'll show you how when you arrive.
Rothbury is a couple of miles away. It's a nice market town with shops and pubs. You've got your own stretch of salmon and trout fishing on the River Coquet if that's your thing. The farm itself has the only agricultural weigh bridge left in the UK.
You're right on the edge of the Northumberland National Park here. For walking, you can't do better. Cragside is basically next door, which is fantastic. The coast, like Alnmouth and Alnwick Castle, is about half an hour's drive. Hadrian's Wall is within an hour.
Facilities: there's parking, an electric vehicle charger, WiFi, a TV, a washing machine, a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair. There's bicycle storage and a BBQ.
