East Cottage
East Cottage is just outside Rothbury on a working farm. It's a Victorian cottage, one of the original ones built for the Cragside estate farm workers. It's got two bedrooms and sleeps four.
It's got a 4 Star rating. They gave it a Green Tourism Award too. The main heating is from a wood burner in the living room and there's an old Esse range in the kitchen, which is on for background heat. There's a normal electric oven as well for cooking. The bathroom is downstairs.
The garden is large and enclosed, which is good because you can bring two dogs. They have to be on a lead around the farm, but there's that enclosed area where they can run. You get a nice view from the garden over the fields.
It's a rare breed farm, so you'll see cattle, sheep, and goats around. The whole site is historic, with the old agricultural weigh bridge. You can book tours to learn about it.
Rothbury village is about two miles away for shops and pubs. The cottage has its own stretch of fishing on the River Coquet if that's your thing. You're right on the edge of the Northumberland National Park here, so it's great for walking and it's a Dark Skies area. Cragside, the National Trust house, is practically next door.
For days out, Alnwick Castle and the Northumberland coast like Alnmouth are within half an hour. The coast road up to Bamburgh is a good drive.
Facilities: it's got pretty much everything. Wifi, TV, dishwasher, washing machine, cot and highchair, bike storage. There's an electric vehicle charger on site. Bedding and towels are included. They do Christmas stays if you fancy it.
