This is The Old Telephone Exchange in Rothbury. It's a two bedroom place, sleeps four. We got the 4 Star rating, so it's kept to a good standard. It was all done up a few years ago so it feels fresh, but it's not huge. Think modern and clean, not sprawling.
You're right in the middle of the town. The front door opens onto the street, but you can park right outside which is handy. Inside, it's open plan downstairs. The stairs are the main thing to know: they're a cottage staircase, so they're steep and a bit narrow. Fine for most, but something to be aware of.
You can walk to everything in Rothbury. There are a couple of pubs that do food within a minute or two, and some cafes. The Sandstone Way cycle route goes right past the door if you're bringing bikes, and there's storage for them.
The big draw is the walking. You can start a walk up into the Simonside Hills from the doorstep. And Cragside, the National Trust place, is less than a mile away. It's a proper day out, with the house and all those gardens and lakes. Well worth a visit.
For other trips, Alnwick with its castle and bookshop is about half an hour's drive. The coast, like Alnmouth or Bamburgh, is within 40 minutes or so. Hadrian's Wall is a bit further, maybe an hour to the Roman forts. Everything's doable from here.
Facilities are what you'd expect: wifi, TV, dishwasher, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's no garden, but you're so close to everything outdoors it doesn't really matter. Sorry, no pets.
