The Old Telephone Exchange is in the middle of Rothbury. It's a stone-built semi-detached house, like a normal terraced house really. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's been done up nicely. We had it renovated a few years ago.
It sleeps four, in two bedrooms. One bathroom. No pets allowed, sorry.
The stairs are a standard staircase, not those steep cottage ones. Everything is on the ground floor except the bedrooms, which are upstairs. There's parking right outside.
You're about a two-minute walk from a few pubs. Most do food. There are a couple of restaurants and tea rooms too.
The Sandstone Way cycle route goes right past the door. There's a storage space round the back if you've brought bikes.
You can walk straight out onto the Simonside Hills from the cottage. For a proper day out, Cragside House and Gardens is less than a mile away. It's a National Trust place with lakes and woodland walks.
Alnwick is about 12 miles for the castle and gardens. The Northumberland coast, with all the beaches and castles like Alnwick and Bamburgh, is about a 30-minute drive. Hadrian's Wall is a bit further, maybe 45 minutes. Kielder and the Dark Sky Park are about an hour's drive.
Facilities: it's got a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV, and bedding and towels are included.
