Shepherd's Cottage is in Rothbury. It's detached, stood on its own at the very edge of a working farm. You look out at a field of sheep and the Simonside Hills are in the distance.
It sleeps six, with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. That's one of the main things. One bedroom is on the ground floor with its own shower. Upstairs, there's a twin room with an ensuite that has a freestanding bath in it, and then a kingsize bedroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The place is spacious and well-finished.
The living room has a wood burner and big sofas. The kitchen is a farmhouse style with a table in the middle. There's a dishwasher and an American fridge-freezer. The garden is a good size, with a proper seating area.
You can walk straight from the door. You're on the edge of the woods for Cragside, which is a National Trust place. There's a private waterfall about a fifteen minute walk away down the farm track. The house at Cragside is a few minutes' drive. It was the first house in the world lit by hydroelectricity.
Rothbury is a small market town. It's got a few pubs, some places to eat, a riverside park, and independent shops. Longframlington village is close by and has a good cafe and a couple of pubs.
In terms of days out, you're well placed. The Northumberland coast with its castles and beaches is about half an hour. Northumberland National Park is on the doorstep. Alnwick Castle and Gardens is roughly 14 miles away. Hadrian's Wall is about an hour's drive.
Facilities: everything's included, bedding, towels, electricity. There's a washing machine, WiFi, TV, and parking. We accept up to two dogs. There's a highchair if you need one.
