Maltings Cottage is in Rothbury. It's down a quiet close off the main street, about a minute's walk from the River Coquet. It's a stone town house, so it's part of a row. You get a small enclosed patio garden out the back.
It sleeps five. Three bedrooms upstairs, one bathroom. It's a 3 Star place, which is what it says: comfortable and clean, not luxurious. The stairs are a typical cottage staircase, so they turn and are a bit steep.
There's a shop, a couple of pubs, and some places to eat about a hundred yards away on the main street. All handy. The garden is fully enclosed, which is useful if you're bringing a dog.
You're right on the edge of the Northumberland National Park here. For walking, you can start from the doorstep. The Simonside Hills are right there. Cragside, the National Trust house, is just over a mile away. It's famous for its gardens and the hydroelectric system. National Trust Cragside.
If you want to go further, Alnwick with its castle and gardens is about half an hour's drive. The coast at Alnmouth or Boulmer is about the same. For the big castles, Bamburgh is maybe forty minutes, and Holy Island (Lindisfarne) is a bit over an hour, but you must check the tidal crossing times.
What's here: WiFi, parking on the drive, a washing machine, a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog. There's a set of golf clubs in the cupboard if you fancy a round at the local course.
