Carven House is in Rothbury. The front door opens into a hallway. It's tall and airy, with a few original bits kept from the old house. There's an open fire in the main living room. It's in the original fireplace. The shutters on the windows are good for privacy.
It sleeps six people in three bedrooms. There's one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's well looked after. You can bring two dogs.
The kitchen is big and has a breakfast table. The old range cooker is still there as a feature. Off the kitchen is a small dining area with a view of the fields. There's a downstairs toilet too.
Upstairs, the main bedroom has a king size bed. There are two other bedrooms. The bathroom is off the landing.
Outside, there's a small south-facing bit to sit. It looks over the river and the hills.
Rothbury has a few pubs and places to eat. You can walk along the river. There are some independent shops and cafes. Cragside is less than a mile away. It was the first house lit by hydroelectricity. The gardens are nice. National Trust Cragside.
The Simonside Hills are right around the town if you like walking. You can drive out to the Northumberland coast, or go to Alnwick which is about 12 miles. The Northumberland National Park is easy to get to. Kielder Water is up there for water sports and dark skies.
