Carven House is in Rothbury, right in the middle of the village. It's a three bedroom house that sleeps six.
It's a period property, so you've got high ceilings and some original features. The main fireplace in the living room is the original cast iron one, and it has a working open fire. The kitchen is large and has the old range in it as a feature. There's a small dining area off the kitchen with a view to the hills. You also get a downstairs cloakroom, which is handy.
Upstairs, there's a king size bedroom and two others. One family bathroom. The stairs and doorways are standard for an old house, so mind your head if you're tall.
Outside, there's a small south-facing seating area. It overlooks the river. You can hear it from there, which is nice.
The house has a 4 Star rating. It's been renovated to a good standard. Facilities include a washing machine, dishwasher, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. The entrance is wheelchair accessible, but the rest of the house has steps and stairs.
You can bring up to two dogs.
Rothbury itself has most things you need: a few shops, cafes, and several pubs that do food. You can walk along the river right from the doorstep.
For days out, Cragside Estate is barely a mile away. It was the first house powered by hydroelectricity. The gardens and woods there are great for a walk. National Trust Cragside.
The Simonside Hills are on the edge of town for walking. You're on the doorstep of the Northumberland National Park. The coast, like Alnmouth or Craster, is about a 30 minute drive. Alnwick with its castle and gardens is roughly 12 miles away.
