The Arch House is my place in Swinscoe, Staffordshire. It's detached, sat up on Carlton Moor, so you get good views.
It sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, which is handy with a group. The rating is 5 Star, so you get good quality stuff like Hypnos mattresses and wool duvets. It feels solid.
You come in on the ground floor. The main living area is open plan, kitchen, dining and sitting room together. There's a woodburner for cooler nights. Off that, there's a utility room with the washing machine, and one double bedroom with a door through to a shower room.
Upstairs are the other three bedrooms. Two have shower ensuites, and the main one has a dressing area and a bathroom with a roll-top bath. The stairs are fine, no issues.
Outside, there's a lawned garden and a patio. Parking for a few cars on the drive, and there's an electric vehicle charger. We have a cot and highchair if needed. No pets, sorry.
The location is quiet. You're right on the edge of the Peak District. For walking, the Tissington Trail is easy to get to for cycling or a stroll. Dovedale with the stepping stones is about a 15 minute drive. Ilam Park is nice for a shorter walk and a cuppa.
Ashbourne is the closest town, about ten minutes by car. They've got shops, cafes, the usual. Buxton and Bakewell are both within half an hour if you want a proper day out. Bakewell for the pudding, Buxton for the opera house and the spa water.
