The Drovers Rest is a first floor apartment in Haltwhistle. It was once a draper's shop, which I think is quite interesting. It's for two people.
It's got one bedroom with a double bed and a modern shower room. The main room is open plan, so the kitchen, sitting area and dining bit are all together. It's compact, but it has what you need. There's a TV, WiFi, a washing machine, and the bedding and towels are included. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well looked after.
You're right in the middle of Haltwhistle. There are shops, a couple of cafes and a few pubs within a minute's walk. The one opposite does food. It's a handy location.
The big thing here is the history. You're about two miles from Hadrian's Wall. You can drive to several forts and sections of the Wall within 10 or 15 minutes. The Northumberland National Park starts just outside town as well. It's very good walking country.
Within half an hour you can get to Kielder Water and Forest, which is good for cycling and stargazing. Or you can head east to the coast. Hexham is about a 20 minute drive south, it's a nice market town with an abbey. Carlisle is less than an hour west if you need a bigger city or the railway station.
It's an apartment in a town centre, so you should expect some normal street noise during the day. The stairs up to it are fine, but they're a typical older building staircase, so they turn a corner and are a bit steeper at the top.
If you're coming with another couple, this place can be booked together with the two other apartments in the building. That's The Old Drapery and The Reivers Retreat. Between them they sleep six.
For more information on the area, the English Heritage page on Hadrian's Wall is useful for planning visits to the forts.
