Bardon Mill Waiting Room

This is Bardon Mill Waiting Room. It’s an old station waiting room on the platform at Bardon Mill station. It used to be where people waited for trains, and now it's a holiday cottage. It's all on one floor.

It’s detached from the Station House next door. The main room faces the railway line, so you can see the trains go by. They’re not constant, maybe one every couple of hours. It’s a proper line though, Newcastle to Carlisle.

It sleeps three. There's one double bedroom and two bathrooms, one is en-suite. The living space is one big room with the kitchen at one end and a seating area at the other. It gets a lot of light from the big windows. There's a wood burner and an open fire, so it’s warm.

You can bring two dogs. The garden is enclosed, which is handy for that. There's parking on site.

The village is small. There's a hotel that does meals about a hundred yards away, and a little shop that does coffees and papers. For a bigger shop, you’d go to Haydon Bridge or Haltwhistle, both about four miles.

It’s a good spot for getting out. You’re right on the edge of Hadrian's Wall country. English Heritage has all the details for the Wall sites. Hexham is about twenty minutes drive east, Newcastle is about an hour. Carlisle and the start of the Lake District are about forty minutes west. If you want a walk from the door, you can get straight out into the countryside.

Facilities wise: it’s got a dishwasher, WiFi, TV, and a cot if you need one. All the bedding is included. It has a 4 Star rating.
