Hillside Cottage is in Haltwhistle. It's detached, so no neighbours on the other side of the wall. It’s a 4 Star place, which means it's comfortable and well looked after.
It sleeps four, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. That’s handy. You can bring one dog. There's a wood burner in the living room, which is good on cooler evenings. The garden is enclosed, so it’s safe for kids or a dog.
The stairs are a standard cottage staircase, so they're a bit steeper than modern ones. The entrance is wheelchair accessible, but the rest of the cottage isn't really set up for it, so do check if you have specific needs.
It’s well set up for a family. There's a cot, a highchair, and a stairgate. You get bedding and towels included. There's a dishwasher, a washing machine, wifi, and parking right there.
Haltwhistle calls itself the centre of Britain. There's a shop about 700 yards away and a pub about 500 yards. They're both fine. The town has a heated outdoor pool open in summer.
You're really here for the history and the walking. Hadrian's Wall is just three miles away. You can walk to Sycamore Gap from there, the tree from the Robin Hood film. The Roman forts at Housesteads and Vindolanda are close by and worth a visit.
You're on the edge of the North Pennines and the Pennine Way starts nearby. For a day out, Hexham is about a 20-minute drive. It's a nice market town with an abbey. Corbridge, another Roman town, is about the same distance.
