Glendale Cottage

Glendale Cottage is just outside Haltwhistle, on the main road north towards Greenhead. It's a detached stone cottage, part of a small group with our house and another holiday let on the same land. You get your own garden which is enclosed, so it's safe for a dog. The setting is the main thing, really. We've got over eleven acres of woodland and grounds you can walk around, and it's very quiet.

It sleeps six people. There are three bedrooms and one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. The furniture is solid and everything works. One dog is welcome.

There's an indoor heated swimming pool on site that you can book for private slots. It's not huge, but it's a bonus if the weather isn't great. There's also a log cabin in the woods that groups can use, and a big charcoal barbecue.

The location is good for Hadrian's Wall. You can walk to it from here. Walltown Crags and Cawfields are both close by for the best views. The Roman sites at Vindolanda and Housesteads are a short drive away, maybe ten or fifteen minutes. We're inside the Northumberland National Park and the International Dark Skies Park, so the stars at night are very clear if it's not cloudy.

Within about half an hour you can get to Kielder Water for sailing, or Hexham for the abbey and market. Carlisle is about forty minutes if you need a bigger town or want to head into the Lake District. Newcastle is under an hour's drive for a city day out.

For facilities, you've got the things you'd expect: wifi, TV, dishwasher, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. Parking is right outside the cottage.
