Chesterwood Bastle is on our farm, just outside Haydon Bridge. It's a four hundred year old bastle house. That's a type of fortified farmhouse they used to build around here. It's stone built, thick walls, low ceilings, the lot.
It sleeps two, one bedroom and one bathroom, both on the ground floor. The living room and kitchen are upstairs, which is a bit different. You go up a stone staircase. The stairs are stone and quite steep, so watch your step.
It's got a 4 Star rating. It's clean and well looked after. There's a wood burning stove in the living room, which is good to have on in the evening. The bedroom is downstairs and feels quite solid and quiet.
You're on a working farm, so you'll see sheep and sometimes hear tractors. There's a garden area for you to use. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
Haydon Bridge village is a short walk away. There's a shop, a couple of pubs that do food, and a train station. The River South Tyne runs through it. For a longer walk, you can follow the river path to the roman wall.
You're in a good spot for seeing Hadrian's Wall. It's about a fifteen minute drive to some of the main forts like Housesteads or Chesters. Hexham is about twenty minutes away, that's a market town with an abbey. Kielder Water and Forest is about half an hour north if you want big skies and water.
Facilities: there's parking, a washing machine, a dishwasher, bedding is included, and there's a TV. No Wi-Fi, mobile signal can be patchy depending on your network.
