The Stables Studio

The Stables Studio. It's our place above Haydon Bridge, on the edge of the stables where we keep the ponies. It's separate, so you're on your own up there. The view over the Tyne Valley is the main thing.

It's a studio, so it's all one room. Sleeps two in twin beds. Kitchen area at one end, sitting area with a gas stove in the middle. There's a separate shower room. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped.

You can walk down into Haydon Bridge in about fifteen minutes. It's a proper village with what you need: a Co-op, a few shops, and three pubs. The General Havelock does good food.

Being here is mostly about the outdoors. Hadrian's Wall is about ten minutes' drive. You can walk to it from here if you're keen. The Northumberland National Park starts just the other side of the Wall. For Roman history, Vindolanda fort and The Sill centre are very close. The famous Sycamore Gap tree is along that stretch too.

Hexham's the nearest town, about seven miles east. It's got the abbey and a busy market. Corbridge is another nice stop, a bit further along the river.

The coast is about forty minutes by car. Places like Seahouses and Bamburgh. Or you can head the other way into the Lake District in roughly an hour. Newcastle is under an hour if you want a city day.

For facilities: it's all on one level from the parking spot to the door. There's a deck with a table outside. WiFi works fine. We include all bedding and towels. There's a cot and highchair in the cupboard if you need them. No pets, sorry, because of the horses.

If you're planning, the Visit Northumberland site has good ideas. And the National Trust looks after a lot of the coast and Wall sites.
