Gwel Yr Haul

This is Gwel Yr Haul. It's in Llanaber, just outside Barmouth in North Wales. It's a detached house, so no neighbours through the walls.

The layout is upside down. The bedrooms are all downstairs. Upstairs is the living area, kitchen and dining room. They did that for the view. It's a proper panoramic one looking out over Cardigan Bay. There are patio doors up there that open onto a balcony.

It sleeps seven, in three bedrooms. The main one has a super king bed and space for an extra single and a pull-out bed if you need it. That room has an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath. The other two bedrooms have zip-link beds, so they can be super king or twins. There's also a separate shower room and a family bathroom.

Downstairs, there's a small snug with an Xbox and some books. Upstairs is open plan. The sofas are deep, there's a gas fire, and the dining table is right by the doors. The kitchen is modern.

Outside, there's a courtyard garden with a table and a wetsuit drying area. The balcony upstairs has chairs too.

It's a 4 Star place. It's clean and well looked after. It's also wheelchair accessible on the ground floor. The rating means it's comfortable, not basic.

The beach is about 100 yards away. You get to it via a footpath and a pedestrian railway crossing. It's sand and pebbles and dunes. When the tide's in, you can walk along the promenade into Barmouth town. That takes about half an hour on foot. There are shops, cafes, and places to eat there.

Facilities: everything you'd expect is included. WiFi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher. Bedding and towels are provided. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. You can bring up to two dogs. There's parking on site.

For days out, you're right on the edge of Snowdonia. There's walking, obviously. The Snowdonia National Park site is useful for planning. There's local golf, fishing, and horse riding. Harlech Castle is about a 20 minute drive south. Further up the coast, you've got Portmeirion, which is about half an hour away.
