Gwel Yr Haul is in Llanaber, just next to Barmouth. It's a detached house built facing the sea. The best thing is the view. You get a really good, wide view of the beach and Cardigan Bay from upstairs.
The main living area is upstairs, which is why they call it upside-down. It means you're sitting up there looking out at the sea. There are patio doors that open onto a balcony. The kitchen is modern and open plan with the living space. There's a gas fire for chilly evenings. Downstairs there are three bedrooms that sleep seven. One has a super king bed plus a single and a pull-out bed, and its own bathroom with a bath. The other two bedrooms have beds that can be either super kings or twins.
There's also a small snug room downstairs with an Xbox and some books. The garden is a pretty courtyard with a table. There's a wetsuit drying area, which is handy.
You can walk to the beach. It's about 100 yards down a footpath and over a pedestrian railway crossing. The beach is a mix of sand and pebbles with dunes. You can walk along the promenade into Barmouth itself, which takes about twenty minutes. The town has shops, cafes, and places to eat.
For days out, you've got the Snowdonia National Park right on the doorstep for walking. The National Trust in Wales looks after a lot of the coast and hills around here. There's local golf and horse riding if that's your thing. Harlech Castle is about a twenty-minute drive up the coast.
Facilities: it's got a 4 Star rating. There's parking, a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and included bedding. It's wheelchair accessible. We accept up to two dogs. There's a cot and highchair available.
