The Old Stables

The Old Stables is my place in Cantley, Norfolk. It was a stable block, so it's a one-bedroom conversion for two people. It's joined to my house but you've got your own front door and a garden that's just for you. The garden's enclosed, which is handy if you're bringing a dog.

It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and everything works, but it's not a palace. It's a place to come back to after a day out. The stairs inside are the main thing to know about. They're the original ones from the conversion, so they're narrow and quite steep. You get used to them, but you need to be careful.

The village is quiet. There's a pub that does food about a ten-minute walk away. The nearest shop for basics is a few miles, in Acle or Reedham.

Location wise, you're in the middle of the Broads. Reedham is about three miles. You can watch the boats on the river, hire one, or just have a pint by the water. Breydon Water is close by if you're into birdwatching. The beach at Winterton is about a twenty-minute drive. You can walk for miles there and sometimes see seals. Norwich is under half an hour by car or you can get the train from Cantley station, which is a mile away.

The facilities are what you'd need: wifi, TV, a washing machine, bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. You can bring one dog.

For planning days out, the Broads Authority site is useful, and so is the RSPB in Norfolk if you're a birder.
