Candle Cottage

Candle Cottage is in Wepham, which is a few miles north of Arundel. It's detached, brick and flint. The garden is enclosed, which is handy.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped. It's on a bit of a slope, so the views from the back over the Arun valley and towards the castle are really quite good.

The stairs are steep. Cottage stairs, you know. Watch your head if you're tall, particularly on the landing.

Inside, it's got everything you'd need. Washing machine, dishwasher, wifi, a wood burner. There's parking for two cars on the gravel drive.

You can walk straight out the back gate onto the South Downs. The path goes up the lower slopes – you get the view without the full climb, if that's your thing. The Black Rabbit pub in Burpham is about a twenty-minute walk down the lane. It's a proper pub, does good food.

Arundel is ten minutes by car. The castle is the obvious thing. It's a big day out if you like that sort of history. The Wetland Centre there is good if you've got kids, or if you just like birds. For the beach, Climping and Littlehampton West Beach are about twenty minutes' drive. It's a shingle beach, properly quiet.

Useful links if you're planning: South Downs National Park for walking maps, and Arundel Castle for visiting information.

No pets, I'm afraid. Bedding and towels are included.
