The Old Stables

The Old Stables is in Wiveton, just off the coast road near Cley next the Sea. It's my place. It's detached, single-storey, so no stairs at all. It’s brick and flint and feels solid.

It sleeps five in three bedrooms and has two bathrooms. It’s got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and clean. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you’ve brought dogs. We allow two.

You’re right on the edge of the salt marshes. You can see Cley windmill from the cottage. The birdwatching is the main thing here. You can walk straight out onto the coastal path from the door. Cley beach is a shingle beach about half a mile away, down a footpath.

The village of Cley is about a quarter of a mile. There’s a good pub there, and an excellent deli. There’s a shop too. Blakeney Quay is a ten-minute walk, maybe fifteen. You can get boat trips out to see the seals from there.

For a day out, Holkham Hall and beach are about half an hour's drive. Norwich is about forty minutes if you need a city.

Inside, there’s a woodburner for colder nights. We’ve got a dishwasher and a washing machine. There’s WiFi and TV. All the bedding and towels are included.

If you’re planning walks or want to know more about the area, the National Trust Norfolk site is useful, and so is the North Norfolk Coast National Landscape page.
