Tower Cottage is in Glenridding, at the bottom of Helvellyn. It's one of those places you see in pictures. The view from the front is straight up the valley.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. That's handy. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's well-finished and everything works properly.
You come in on the ground floor into a big open space with the kitchen and a table. There's a sort of platform level above that with a daybed if someone wants to sit apart for a bit. The main living room is on the middle floor. It's got French doors that let a lot of light in. The stairs are a typical cottage spiral, so just take care.
Outside is a small, enclosed patio. It's private. You can sit out there with a drink in the evening.
You're right on the edge of the village. The path up Helvellyn starts a few minutes' walk away. For Striding Edge, you'd start from there. Ullswater is a five minute walk down the hill. You can get the steamer from there, which is a good way to see the lake without walking. Glenridding has the basics: a couple of pubs that do food, a shop, a cafe.
Patterdale is a couple of miles down the road. Pooley Bridge is about ten minutes by car. Aira Force waterfall is close by, maybe a five minute drive. There's a lot of good walking straight from the door.
For facilities: it has parking for one car, WiFi, a wood burner, and a dishwasher. All the bedding and towels are included. No pets allowed, sorry.
