South Lodge

This is South Lodge. It's a Georgian gate lodge, detached, on the grounds of Paxton House. It's for two people.

It's got a three star rating, so it's comfortable but not luxury. Everything you need is there. The garden is enclosed and faces west, so you get the evening sun. It's good if you have dogs, you can take two.

Inside, there's one bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom with a bath and shower. The living room has an open fire and a TV. The kitchen is small but has a dishwasher and a fold-out table. Wi-Fi is included.

Because you're staying on the estate, you get a discount on a tour of Paxton House itself. You also get access to the grounds and woodland walks after the public hours. There's a tearoom on site.

The location is quiet and rural. There's a pub about a mile away in the village. Berwick-upon-Tweed is a ten minute drive for shops and the coast. The River Tweed is right there for fishing or walks.

For a day out, you can drive along the coast into Northumberland. Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Castle are probably about half an hour away. Edinburgh is just over an hour's drive if you want a city trip.
