Murton Cottage

This is Murton Cottage. It's a couple of miles outside Berwick-upon-Tweed, so you've got the town close by but you're out in the country. The cottage used to be part of a farm, it's been done up now. It sleeps six, three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which helps. It's got a 4 Star rating so it's comfortable, a bit nicer than the basics.

The view from the front is over fields. It's quiet. There's parking right there.

Inside, it's spacious. There's a woodburning stove for cooler evenings, and the kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. We include all the bedding and towels. You can bring up to two dogs.

For getting out, you're well placed. Berwick is two miles away for shops and restaurants. You can walk the old town walls there. The nearest pub is about four miles, so you'll likely drive.

The coast is easy. Scremerston beach is about three miles. For boat trips out to see the seabirds, you drive up to Seahouses for the Farne Islands. Holy Island is about ten miles away, but you have to check the tide times for the crossing. Further down the coast, there's good diving at Coldingham Bay.

Inland, you've got the Cheviot hills for walking. If you're into riding, there's stables just over ten minutes walk away. For a day out, Alnwick Castle and its gardens are within half an hour, same for Bamburgh Castle.

Useful links if you're planning: Northumberland National Park for the Cheviots, and Northumberland Coast AONB. For Holy Island tide times, check the Lindisfarne website.
