Stone Millworkers Cottage

A former millworker’s cottage built around 1850 on the banks of the River Derwent, this Grade II listed property overlooks woodland and hills in a street scene of listed cottages, providing a quiet neighbourhood with a bygone feel. Beautifully restored, you enter off the quaint street scene into the cosy living room with a wood burner and large comfy sofa. Adjoining is the modern kitchen and leading off here, down some quite steep steps, is the private yard which is a perfect sun trap. Going up the original stone stairs you will find the dining room filled with vintage furniture overlooking the River Derwent and Chevin hills. On this floor is the twin bedroom hosting black iron beds, original fireplace and sash window; there is also the bathroom with a traditional bathroom suite featuring bath with shower over. Tucked away on the second floor after ascending some original steep stairs, you will find the master bedroom with a double bed.
From the front door you can embark on the ’Milford Walk’ a route of around 6 miles that begins in the village and takes you on a sightseeing tour up the Derwent Valley before descending into Belper. There are wonderful views of the village found from the top of Sunny Hill near the end of the walk.
Take a drive up to the Peak District for some more wonderful landscapes and walking routes that you can enjoy or find other attractions closer to home, like Kedleston Hall, a neoclassical mansion within huge parkland open to the public. For the historian there is Duffield Castle which is run by the National Trust, here you can delve into local history and continue brushing up on your historical knowledge by visiting Derby Museum and Art Gallery, The Museum of Making, Pickford House, and The Enoch Stone. The city is also home to a myriad of wine bars and traditional pubs. Nottingham and Leicester are also within driving distance and are home to a wealth of other attractions.
The cottage is also perfectly located for guests looking to explore the Peak District National Park and its surrounding towns and cities as well as being within easy walking distance of pubs and restaurants.
