Chatelherault is a delightful and cosy cottage, perfect for couples or a small family to enjoy the magic of this beautiful corner of south-west Scotland. Set in the small and peaceful village of Ruthwell, Chatelherault is a real home from home. The spacious sitting room is bright and sunny whilst the kitchen has everything you could need for that perfect self-catering holiday. There are two good sized bedrooms and a family bathroom. Perhaps the best is the dining room with its windows looking out towards the garden and the village.
Ruthwell is a peaceful little village located close to the Solway Firth and with some amazing walks to discover right from your doorstep. Chatelherault is just a stone’s throw from the wonderful Solway Coast. A must while staying at Chatelherault is a visit to Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, a spectacular 1400-acre wild reserve, a true bird and wildlife lovers’ dream. Whatever the time of year, there is spectacular wildlife to be seen from ospreys and warblers in the spring and summer, to winter when Caerlaverock becomes a wildfowl wonderland, as huge flocks of birds create intricate patterns in the sky as they feed and come in to roost.
The Solway Coast is also home to Mersehead, an extensive wetland and saltmarsh area, a haven for breeding waders, wintering waterfowl and year-round bird and wildlife watching. Spring is particularly magical, when the wet meadows fill with lapwings and skylarks.
With an abundance of attractions to visit you will be spoilt for choice from interesting historical sites, supreme mountain biking at the world renowned 7Stanes tracks at Mabie and Dalbeattie, to challenging hill walks or gentle beach strolls. The younger members of the family can enjoy farm parks, ice cream parlours, and chocolate factories where you can make your own chocolate! Visit the county town of Dumfries with some high street shops, or the smaller towns of Dalbeattie, Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright, which have a variety of niche shops, art galleries and excellent restaurants. Local shops within 5 miles.
