Six miles from the burgh of Langholm, this cottage has been lovingly put together with careful attention to detail. With a warm welcoming atmosphere from the outset, as you explore it just keeps getting better. Originally a water mill, this 19th-century, stone-built retreat is set in an idyllic location amid rolling countryside, dotted with beautiful rivers and streams. You can walk for miles without seeing anyone except the sheep with their lambs, creating the perfect countryside getaway for couples, whatever the time of year.
You enter through the sun room equipped with art materials and an easel, which continues through the sunny entrance hall and onto a truly fully equipped kitchen, where the smell of homemade bread will greet you, if you are early enough! As well as the usual mod cons, there is also a coffee maker with grinder, juicer, bread machine, fondue, slow cooker and more. The welcome pack has eggs from true free ranging hens, along with other treats and something for your furry friends! The large open-plan living area is really something special, with a sumptuous sofa, leather recliner and a one-of-a-kind cottage craft dining table. Exposed stonework and a cathedral beam ceiling bring an enchanting feel to the interior. Settle down with the wood burner ablaze and take it all in. Follow the spiral staircase up to the galleried bedroom, featuring an aromatherapy diffuser and Velux windows which you can open up to watch the sky above and hear the calming sounds of the river flowing nearby from the extra large kingsize bed dressed in luxury linen. A separate dressing area leads onto an en-suite with a spa bath, fully equipped with washing toiletries, massage oils and toys, including rubber ducks! Emerge from the tub to Egyptian cotton bath sheets and spa dressing gowns and slippers. Even the downstairs toilet has been given its own unique character.
Hills and fields grace the outside, ideal for a stroll, or let the dog run around in the enclosed garden, whilst you relax on the seating area of your choice to watch the birds. In the evening, fire up the barbecue or the chiminea, enjoy the fairy lights dotted about or light the outdoor candles while you snuggle up in blankets provided and listen to the babble of the river. There are four seating areas in the garden and a pond. There is also a secret path! Find it and explore the river, which is available for fishing if you fancy a go. There is a good selection of games, books and DVDs etc. Make sure you explore everywhere as there are hidden toys and surprises. The owners also have friendly dogs themselves, and have tried to think of everything to ensure that your stay is truly magical.
