Cove Railway Cottage is a delightful little cottage, formerly the Railway Keeper’s cottage on the old Caledonian Railway route to Carlisle. Now the main line from Carlisle, Cove Railway Cottage, has not been in use as a Keeper’s Cottage for many years and is now a delightful holiday cottage which has been refurbished in 2021.
Cove Railway Cottage is a comfortable holiday home for two, with the added bonus of a sofa bed, perhaps for your little ones; the kids will love the trains whizzing by! Set all on the ground floor, there is a well-equipped kitchen, a large double bedroom, modern bathroom and the living room has patio doors opening out onto a small veranda with views over the garden.
Set just on the outskirts of the small village of Kirkpatrick Fleming, you can walk easily from the cottage into the village where there is an excellent pub and restaurant, and closer still is the small Caravan Park, where there is a small shop selling everyday essentials which is open Easter through to October. With lots of walks from the doorstep, including Bruce’s Cave, there is no need to jump in the car everyday. The local area has a number of woodland walks and is a red squirrel area. Further afield, Dumfries and Galloway is a beautiful area to discover from the rocky and sandy Solway Coast, to the lush green inland forests and hills. Gretna Green is only 3 miles away, known worldwide for its weddings at the famous Blacksmith’s Shop and being the first village in Scotland where traditionally couples used to run away and marry here, and is still one of the world’s most popular wedding destinations today! Gretna Gateway Outlet Village is only 3 miles away.
There are many impressive castles and abbeys including Caerlaverock Castle and Sweetheart Abbey. Enjoy a visit to Ellisland Farm, once the home of the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns. Do not miss a trip to the National Nature Reserve at Caerlaverock to discover the picturesque natural landscapes and wildlife, which the adults and kids will enjoy equally. For the more adventurous, try the Mabie 7stanes mountain bike trail, where their award-winning trails offer some of the best mountain biking in the country.
