Charter a fishing boat from the harbour, go fossil hunting or take a walk on the spectacular South West Coastal Path. For something more leisurely, there are a plethora of pubs and restaurants in the town just waiting to be discovered. For nature lovers, the area has some of the most diverse scenery in the country. Lyme Bay sweeps round from the National Nature Reserve on the Dowlands Cliffs in an uninterrupted arc along the huge bank of shingle that is Chesil Beach, all the way to the limestone slab of the Isle of Portland. The 626ft Golden Cap, a breath-taking viewpoint and part of a lovely 2, 000-acre National Trust Estate, is the highest point on England’s south coast, and a World Heritage Site.
