This lovely 17th century cottage, in the village of Abbotsbury is ideally located for tranquillity. The Cottage - Abbotsbury benefits from two car parking spaces next to the cottage which is rare in the village of Abbotsbury. There are great views from the cottage and even better views of St. Catherine’s Chapel from the raised terraced garden, a perfect spot to watch the sunset.
The Cottage - Abbotsbury consists of an open plan living area on the first floor with a dining and a living area including a double sofa bed with sprung mattress. There is also one bedroom on the first floor offering a zip and link bed which gives a choice of sleeping arrangements. The ground floor offers a quarry tiled kitchen with a red brick fireplace, oak beams and a welcoming window seat. A generous welcome breakfast hamper will be provided for your stay. There is also a toy box provided for children to keep them entertained as well as games and books.
Ideally located along the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic coastline, this is an excellent location for rural and beach walks or just sit back and relax in the garden, taking in the peace and quiet and great views of the surrounding countryside. The famous Chesil Beach and the Abbotsbury Swannery are within a short walking distance of the cottage, making it a great choice for those wishing to explore the local area by foot.
The village of Abbotsbury is just a few minutes’ walk, general stores/post office, farm shop, Children’s Farm, two local public houses, tearooms, craft shops, children’s playground and even woodworking shops, not forgetting the Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens. The village is on the ‘Jurassic Drive’ coast road, which offers one of the outstanding breath-taking scenic coastal drives in the whole of the UK at 18 miles in length. The road starts in Weymouth and ends in Bridport or vice versa, following the coast, Chesil Beach and the fleet lagoon with some amazing high vantage points along the way. It’s certainly the best part of the 96 mile Jurassic coastline. If you wish to leave the car behind, the coastal bus route stops in the village.
Abbotsbury is a beautiful, unspoilt village, formaly a Benedictine Monastery, dating back to the time of Edward the Confessor. It lies within the coastal hills of South Dorset and both the village and countryside around are rich in geological and historical interest. Salisbury Cathedral, Sherbourne Abbey and Winchester Cathedral are again, just a short car journey away. Weymouth, with its safe, sandy beaches is ideal for swimming, sailing and wind surfing and one can head in almost any direction for varied and beautiful walks. Beach 2 miles.
