Situated in the Worth Valley overlooking the moors that inspired the Bronte Sisters, Mrs Fig’s House is a beautiful cottage sympathetically renovated with sustainability in mind. Originally part of a 17th century stone barn, the property has been completely renovated inside to bring it right up to the 21st century.
Downstairs is a bright open space with cosy living area, dining table and modern, fully equipped kitchen ready to rustle up tasty meals. The living area is the ideal place to relax on the comfy sofa after a busy day exploring, and, for those cooler evenings, why not light the wood burner and relax in its warm glow? Upstairs, the bedroom, with king size bed and spacious landing area with extra seating, have stunning views out over the fields and moorland. A beautifully designed shower room with heated floor and towel rail completes the upstairs accommodation. Outside there is a dedicated parking space for up to two cars and an enclosed patio with outdoor furniture where stunning sunsets can be enjoyed. A bench is available in the owner’s garden in front of the cottage where guests can listen to and watch the many birds that visit.
Attached to the owner’s farmhouse, but with a large stone built barn separating the two properties, Mrs Fig’s House can offer peace and quiet with only sheep and birds for company while having the peace of mind that the owners are on hand if necessary. Local knowledge is invaluable as is a neighbour if you forget an essential ingredient for your evening meal! The owner is also keen to share her homemade bread and garden produce when available.
There are many wonderful walks, most of them right from the doorstep, taking you through stunning local scenery, including the moors and valleys that inspired the writings of the Bronte Sisters. The Pennine Way is a short walk across the fields and this can take you on many walks in all directions, scenic reservoirs and local pubs included. A short walk north gives you amazing 360 degree views with Pendle Hill looming close and the Three Peaks of Yorkshire visible on a clear day.
Haworth, famed for its Brontë connections, is just 3 miles away. Steeped in literary history, the pretty village has a steep, cobbled Main Street and has much to offer from independent shops, cafés, pubs, galleries and the Brontë Parsonage Museum. The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, with its connections to the Railway Children is very close by and steam trains can be heard when the wind is in the right direction.
Mrs Fig’s House is just 20 minutes away from the quirky market town of Hebden Bridge, and Skipton, with its market and medieval castle, is just 25 minutes away, as is historic Shibden Hall, brought to our screens in Gentleman Jack. It is also ideally located for access to the Yorkshire Dales and, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty such as the hidden gem of the Forest of Bowland in Lancashire.
Mrs Fig’s House is truly a place for getting away from it all and discovering places that will become cherished holiday memories.
