The pretty village of Newchurch-in-Pendle lies in the shadow of Pendle Hill, and is most famous for its associations with the notorious Pendle Witches. In the heart of the village you’ll find the ’Witches Galore’ gift shop with coven figures outside, and where uniquely you can browse through a whole host of spooky merchandise. An abundance of wonderful walking routes radiate from the village across the beautiful Pendle countryside, and keen cyclists will love the steep and winding country lanes that snake through the villages and beyond. Nearby Barley is around a 20-minute walk and is the base for climbing/walking the majestic Pendle Hill. It’s also home to two fantastic local pubs, as well as a café and picnic area. For a more gentle stroll a 5-minute drive will take you to the Pendle Sculpture Trail, or to the Pendle Heritage Centre in Barrowford, where you can relax in the gardens, visit the museum or have a bite to eat in the café. Wycoller Country Park, famed for its Bronte connections is around a 30-minute drive and is known as one of the prettiest country parks in Lancashire. Here you can also embark along The Bronte Way. Haworth is around 35 minutes away, and the Yorkshire Dales National Park can be reached in around 45 minutes. For a complete change of scenery the wonderful coastal resorts of Crosby, Formby, Lytham St Annes and Blackpool can all be reached in just over an hour, as can the Lake District National Park.
