Clay Well Cottage can be found in the Yorkshire village of Golcar, which is located on a hillside crest above the Colne Valley in West Yorkshire, just over 3 miles from Huddersfield town centre.
This superb, Grade II weaver’s cottage dates back to the early 1800s and offers a wealth of original features such as beautiful, mullioned windows and beamed ceilings. It boasts far reaching views of the surrounding countryside from the upper floor and split-level, south-facing terraced garden, which is just perfect for a leisurely breakfast or evening glass of wine.
The bedroom and bathroom are on the ground floor as you enter, with the kitchen, living and dining room on the lower ground floor which is reached by steep, narrow and uneven stairs in style with the age of the building. The bedroom is spacious with a kingsize bed and beautiful monk’s pew below the window, which overlooks the terrace and valley. The bathroom boasts a large corner bath for a luxurious soak after a day exploring the great outdoors, plus a separate shower cubicle.
Downstairs the kitchen is fully fitted with everything you’d need, and the spacious living room with a wonderful polished wooden floor and beamed ceiling is where you’ll find the double sofa bed. In line with the cottage, Golcar itself is a stone-built weaver’s village dating back to the 1800s.
Steeped in history you’ll find ample local and independent amenities including a shop, butchers and selection of food serving pubs and cafes. It’s also home to the Colne Valley Museum, who quite wonderfully provide details of Ginnel Trails you can follow around the village, marked by plaques on the walls. For a wider range of shopping and impressive array of eating establishments the colourful market town of Huddersfield is just over 3 miles away and is well served by local bus routes. The neighbouring villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden are within a 15-minute drive and are home to vintage shops and award-winning cafes and restaurants. For anyone craving relaxation and pampering, the UK’s first eco spa is just 5 minutes away. The Peak District National Park can be reached in around 20 minutes and the Yorkshire Dales National Park in around an hour.
