Riverbank Cottage is in Kirkby Stephen. It's a one-bedroom cottage for two people, detached. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable but not palatial.
The main thing is the river. It's right on the River Eden. There's a packhorse bridge outside. You get a clear view across the water to the fields and the Howgill Fells. You can feed the ducks from the window.
It's a two minute walk into the town centre. Kirkby Stephen is a small market town. It's on the Coast to Coast walk. There's a shop, a pub, and a restaurant about 200 yards away. The Settle to Carlisle railway line is two miles from the cottage.
You're in the Eden Valley here, between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. It's quieter. Ullswater is the closest lake, about 25 miles, a 40 minute drive. There's a boat service on it you can use. To get to Windermere, you'd go over Kirkstone Pass, which is a good drive with the views.
The stairs inside are quite steep. There's one bathroom with a shower. Parking is right there. Bedding and towels are provided. No pets.
For planning, the town has a good tourist information office. Useful links: Yorkshire Dales National Park and Lake District National Park.
