Clematis Cottage
This stone built coach house dating back to the early 1700s has a unique feel with its exposed beams, lintels with deep stone windowsills and distinctive curved walls. Located in the quiet village of Church Brough, below St Michael’s church on a bridleway with more wildlife passing than traffic, you are surrounded by both the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District National Parks and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
There is an incredible choice to explore in the heart of this fabulous walking country. Wainwright’s Pennine Journey passes by the cottage and the area’s Roman legacy provides a fascinating backdrop to a stay in Cumbria.
Completely self-contained with all amenities, the cottage has a large, light airy beamed, triple aspect bedroom with en-suite shower room and a super kingsize bed which can be made into two full sized singles if desired. With a large open plan downstairs the fully equipped kitchen area has been designed to appeal to those who enjoy cooking. The living and dining areas provide comfortable seating with a large screen TV to create a relaxing environment. Seating in the courtyard provides a sunny spot for breakfast, morning coffee and afternoon tea. Guests have use of a seating area in the kitchen garden from where on a clear day can be seen Blencathra and Skiddaw. Guests are encouraged to help themselves to produce in season, including rhubarb, raspberries, blueberries, apples and blackcurrants as well as flowers for the dining table.
Bird watcher or cyclist? Walker or golfer? History buff or rambler? You are spoiled for choice with two local golf courses, the Carlisle to Settle train line and a multitude of castles to name some of the local excursions. Just a short stroll from the front door, up the Roman road you will find Brough Castle, a Norman castle built on the site of the Roman fort Verterae, and the popular Ice Cream Parlour using milk produced by the Brough Castle Farm herd. Clematis Cottage is a perfect base to either enjoy a peaceful break or energetic holiday. In Brough enjoy a fish and chip supper from the fish and chip shop, a drink in the pub, a meal in the bistro or the hotel restaurant, visit the local shop, all just half a mile away.
