The Elm
The Elm is one of our shepherds huts. It's on our farm in Smardale, which is in the Eden Valley. It's modern inside, done up like a small studio flat.
It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. The bed's a double. It's got a 4 Star rating, which is good. It's clean and comfortable. Everything's on one level, which is handy.
You've got your own patio area out front with a table and chairs. It looks out over the fields. Being a working farm, there are often animals about. You might see the sheep coming past.
You're welcome to bring dogs. Up to two. They need to be kept on a lead around the livestock, obviously.
For walks, you can step right out onto the footpaths. Scandal Beck is a nice ten minute stroll down the lane. The Smardale Gill viaduct is a bit further, but the views from up there are worth it. You're on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park here. The coast to coast cycle route goes nearby if you're bringing bikes.
The nearest pub for a meal is about two miles away in Kirkby Stephen. For a bigger shop, you'd head to Kirkby Stephen as well. It's a small town but it has what you need.
You're in a good spot for seeing different things. The Lake District is about a half hour drive west. The Northern Pennines are to the east. You can easily get to places like Penrith or Appleby.
Facilities: there's wifi, parking right by the hut, and all your bedding and towels are included. There's a small kitchen area with what you'll need for basic meals.
