The Elm is a shepherd's hut on our farm in Smardale. It's just for two people. One room with a double bed, and a small bathroom with a shower.
It's modern inside, all open plan. You've got your own patio area with a table and chairs. The view is just fields and the fells. Being a farm, you'll see sheep and sometimes hear tractors. That's just how it is.
The hut has a 4 Star rating. It's clean and comfortable. The WiFi usually works fine, but being rural, it can be slow sometimes.
You're right in the Eden Valley here. For a walk, you can go straight from the hut down to Scandal Beck, it's about ten minutes. The Smardale Gill viaduct is a bit further on. The views from up there are very good.
The coast to coast cycle route goes nearby. Kirkby Stephen is about two miles away for shops, a couple of pubs, and the train station. The Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District are both easy to get to from here. Kendal is roughly half an hour's drive.
We allow up to two dogs. There's parking right next to the hut. Bedding and towels are included.
