The Ash

The Ash is a shepherd's hut in Smardale. It's on our working farm, so you'll see sheep and maybe some machinery around, but you have your own private space. It sleeps two in one room. There's one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's well-equipped and comfortable.

It's open plan inside, so it's all one space except the bathroom. You get a patio with a bit of garden looking out over the fields. The WiFi works, but it's a farm so don't expect super fast speeds. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right next to it.

You can bring up to two dogs. They need to be kept on a lead around the farm animals, obviously.

Location wise, it's good. You're right between the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, and the Eden Valley. For a walk from the door, Smardale Gill is the one. It's an old railway viaduct with great views. Scandal Beck is about ten minutes' walk.

For a day out, Kirkby Stephen is about four miles away for shops and pubs. The Coast to Coast cycle route goes right past. If you want to drive into the Lakes, Kendal is about a twenty minute drive. The Yorkshire Dales National Park website is good for walking maps. The Lake District National Park site is useful for their side of things.
