This is Castle House Cottage, in the hamlet of Hartley. It's attached to the main house on the end, but all the space is yours. It was a brewery and an inn a long time ago, from the 1700s. Now it's a holiday cottage.
It sleeps three. There's one bedroom and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The bedroom is upstairs and it's a really big space with beams and a little galleried area. The stairs have some of the old stonework showing, which I like. They're a bit steep and narrow in places, like a lot of old cottage stairs.
There's a vestibule by the front door which is handy for dumping boots and coats. The kitchen has what you need. The bathroom has a bath and a separate shower. We've got Wi-Fi and a TV.
Outside, there's an enclosed garden and patio with a BBQ. You can park right here. We can store bikes if you bring them. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them, and a stairgate for the top of the stairs. You can bring two dogs.
Hartley is very quiet. You'll hear the beck running past. The remains of Hartley Castle are on the hill above the village. You can walk into Kirkby Stephen, it takes about twenty minutes on the footpath. The town has shops, a few pubs, cafes, and a train station on the Settle-Carlisle line.
This is walking and cycling country. The Coast to Coast path goes right through here. The Eden Viaducts footpath starts in Hartley. For cyclists, Kirby Stephen is on the C2C route. There's an electric bike hire place in the village and normal bike hire in town.
You're on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, the North Pennines, and the Howgill Fells. The Lake District isn't far either, maybe a 40 minute drive to the nearest bits. Kirkby Stephen has fishing and golf nearby. The castles at Brough and Pendragon are a short drive away and free to visit.
