Low Mouthlock Cottage is down a track off the road to South Stainmore. It’s detached and made of stone, parts of it are very old, from the 1650s. It's remote. The view from the garden is across the Eden Valley and it’s big, about thirty miles on a clear day. It changes with the weather.
It sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, three bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms have their own en-suite. It’s got a 4 Star rating. It’s comfortable and well-equipped.
The kitchen is the main room. It has an Aga for cooking and heating. The walls are a bit wonky, which you’d expect. The living room has a wood burner, and there’s a separate snug if people want to spread out. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you have dogs or children. There’s a kids' play area.
You’re between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, both about forty minutes’ drive. Northumberland and Hadrian’s Wall are also within reach for a day trip. The Pennines are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and they’re right on the doorstep. High Force waterfall in Teesdale is worth the drive.
Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub in England, is about five miles away on the moor. For supplies or a meal out, Brough and Kirkby Stephen are about six miles. They have pubs, restaurants, and a few shops.
Facilities include a dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a cot, highchair, and stairgate if needed. You can bring up to two dogs.
