The Gatehouse is just outside Kirkby Stephen, you'll have seen the big house as you drove up. This was the old entrance gatehouse to the hall. It's detached, so no one attached to you. The garden is enclosed, so it's good if you've got a dog, but sorry, no pets allowed here.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom with a walk-in shower. It's got a 4 Star rating. They've done it up nicely inside. It's warm, which is the main thing. There's a woodburning stove, but the central heating is good so you don't need to use it unless you want to.
Kirkby Stephen is about a mile and a half down the road. There's a Co-op, a few pubs, and some places to eat. It's a proper market town. This is walking country. You're right on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The Coast to Coast path goes through Kirkby Stephen, and the Pennine Way isn't far. If you fish, the River Eden is nearby.
For a day out, you can get to a lot of places in about half an hour. The Lake District, the proper bit around Ullswater, is that way. The Yorkshire Dales, like Swaledale and Hawes, are the other way. The Settle to Carlisle railway line runs through here too, if you like trains. Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub, is up the road a bit.
Inside, it's got what you'd need. Washing machine, TV, WiFi. The bedding and towels are included. Parking is right outside.
