The Gatehouse is at the entrance to Beckfoot Hall, near Winton. It’s a detached stone building, the original gatehouse to the hall. It’s Grade II listed, so it’s got thick walls and old windows. It feels solid.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom with a walk-in shower. It’s got a 4 Star rating, which means it’s comfortable and well-finished. It’s not huge, but the rooms are a good size. The kitchen has everything you’d need.
There’s a woodburning stove in the living room. It gets the place really warm. You get your own enclosed garden with a patio. Parking is right outside. There’s an electric vehicle charger if you need it.
You’re out in the countryside here. It’s quiet. Kirkby Stephen is about a mile and a half away. That’s where the shops and pubs are. The nearest proper supermarket is probably in Penrith.
The location is good for walking. You’re on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The Coast to Coast path goes through Kirkby Stephen. The Pennine Way isn’t far either. The River Eden is nearby if you fish.
For a day out, you can get to the eastern side of the Lake District in under an hour. Ullswater, Keswick, that sort of thing. Or you can go into the Dales – Swaledale and Wensleydale are close. Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub, is a drive away up the hills.
